Dwelling, Place And Environment: Towards A Phenomenology Of Person And World

This volume considers how buildings, places, and environments might sustain a more powerful sense of human wholeness, identity, and life. Contributors include philosophers, geographers, architects, and psychologists, who use a phenomenological approach to explore such themes as environmental experience, sense of place, architecture as at-homeness, and environmental design as place making. Chapters in the first section discuss the theoretical horizons of a phenomenology of environment. Following sections consider how the bodily, cultural, and symbolic aspects of architecture, landscape, and place contribute to the human experience of dwelling.
