Ex-cop Luther Malone, a lifelong member of the secretive paranormal organization known as the Arcane Society, is waiting to meet Grace Renquist. Hired as an aura-reading consultant in the quest for a murder suspect, she’s a librarian from Eclipse Bay, Oregon.

Grace is not expecting much from Malone, who walks with a cane and isn’t so good with a gun. They initially exchange little expectations, but the electric charge between them becomes evident even before reaching their hotel in Maui, where they will pose as honeymooners.

As they get involved, they discover rogue sensitives working for the underground group Nightshade are infiltrating the luxury resort, and Grace recognizes their aura patterns—patterns she has seen before in another life, a life she has kept secret. The sense of danger escalates with para-hunters present, and their employers scramble for backup.

Luther and Grace must think quickly as they face criminals enhanced by a potent drug that amplifies their powers unpredictably. Grace understands the importance of controlling her abilities before they take control of her.
