One of Churchill’s best-known books -- his eyewitness account of the Boer War. Winston Churchill left his regiment, the 4th Hussars, in the spring of 1899, but was eager to be back in action. He became a war correspondent for The Morning Post and sailed from Southampton aboard the Dunottar Castle on October 14, reaching Cape Town by October 31st. Over the next eight months, he filed regular dispatches to the newspaper. His articles were later compiled into two short books, which have been published together as The Boer War. Churchill’s vivid writing provides a dramatic picture of the conflict and the challenges faced by the British Army in their fight against the Boers’ resistance.
