The People in the Trees

In 1950, a young doctor named Norton Perina joins an expedition to the remote Micronesian island of Ivu'ivu in search of a rumored lost tribe. They find the tribe and also a group of forest dwellers called "The Dreamers," who are extraordinarily long-lived but increasingly senile. Perina suspects their longevity is due to a rare turtle; unable to resist, he kills one and smuggles some meat back to the U.S. He proves his theory scientifically, earning worldwide fame and the Nobel Prize, but the miraculous cure comes with a terrible cost. As his life spirals out of control, he faces devastating personal consequences.
